A PR Revolution Repeating The PC Revolution
The computer is just a mind without
a body. A Personal Robot (PR) will be a body with a mind, and will
be far more exciting than the Personal Computer (PC). In
particular, a self-manufacturing robot, which is similar to the
non-trivial cloning, will be a far more powerful demonstration of
the concept of self-creation than a recently invented
self-generating software (Pat. No. 5,485,601), which is similar to
the trivial copying. As a practical vision, we would like to point
out that today's automobile companies are in the same position as
were IBM, DEC, Wang, etc. in twenty years ago; they are feeding
the robotics industry instead of leading it, as IBM was feeding
Microsoft and Intel twenty years ago. Today, an industrial robot
costs about the same as a computer twenty years ago, but when the
robot software is transported to the PC and robots are mass
produced (by itself ! or easily assembled like the PC), PR will
have the same price as the PC and a PR Revolution will repeat, and
replace, the PC Revolution. Today's automobile companies are
playing the same role as the major computer companies twenty years
ago, and the current robotics companies are on their way to become
the Microsofts and Intels of today. The automobile companies
should become the leader, instead of the victim, of the PR
Revolution and would be wise not to let history repeat itself . A
workable overall strategy for the costly development of a
Self-manufacturing General Purpose Robot must be based on
practical applications, which might have to go through the
following five stages with their respective estimated costs (in
brackets): (1) Sports equipment designs based on new robot physics
(Hundreds thousand dollars) (2) Development of professional
educational robots to popularize robotics ($Millions)

(3) The PR Revolution: Self-manufacturing Personal Robots (simple
and low cost) for education, household help, house central
regulator, automatic fire fighter, medical emergency, mechanical
pets, intelligent surveillance, entertainment, toys, simple
manufacturing, robot software testing , and as PC with a body
(Hundreds $Millions) (4) Bounceless suspension system for cars
based on bounceless collision ($Billions) (5) General Purpose
Robots with human dexterity to replace all human physical labor-The
Third Industrial Revolution envisioned by Tosiyasu L. Kunii
($Trillions) An actual proposal "Jumpulse Robotics Project
for the Education of Professionals for the Third Industrial
Revolution Based on Self-Manufacturing General Purpose Robots
Controlled by Completely Automated Self-Generating Software
System" is in the process of being developed. The proposal,
if approved will be led by the international WuKuniiChing Team,
which is consisted of Ta-You Wu of China, T. L. Kunii of Japan,
Hugh Ching in USA, and their associates, with the aim of
popularizing robotics.
